Art trends by CB Hoyo

Fake Van Gogh by CB Hoyo

“I started painting before I could walk”

CB Hoyo was born in 1995 in Havana, Cuba. At a young age, he immigrated to the Dominican Republic and now lives in Europe.

His artistic process began as a child when he started interpreting the world through his paintings. Over the past few years, his work has increased in stature.

A self-trained artist, CB Hoyo continually produces works that celebrate life itself. Fresh, colorful, and fun are three words that easily describe his creations.

Working with any medium on any material, the artist uses a mixture of art historical trends but always incorporates his unique voice.

CB Hoyo is making a proper mark on the current art scene. Some of his works are already exhibited in private and public collections in 6 continents.

CB Hoyo's prolific output across an array of mediums and materials - from monumental works of spray-painted street art to works on canvas and installation - has seen the young artist rapidly achieve international notoriety. Combining humorous, satirical slogans with his own painterly renditions of art historical masterpieces, the artist first gained a dedicated audience through sharing his art on his Instagram feed.

CB Hoyo's paintings are both playful and provocative. "People forget that art is a way of expression, of having fun and that it should bring joy," he says, and his paintings satirize an art world that is often seen to celebrate monetary value above all else. Slogans are scrawled over-familiar works by the likes of Rothko, Basquiat, and Hirst. This humor is coupled with a prodigious and interactive painterly skill as Hoyo pays a tongue-in-cheek homage to many of his artistic heroes.
